Digital TV

Glossary

T

Terrestrial Broadcast

Signals broadcasted by radiofrequency waves, either analogical or digital, carried over the air from terrestrial antennas (unlike satellites that are in space), and requiring appropriate antennas and receivers for reception.

Tube TV (CRT)

CRT is an acronym for cathode ray tube, also known as Kinescope. Inside the TV a cathode ray tube contains two plates, positive and negative. When the voltage between those two plates is very high, it generates electrons, and as the electrons reach the positive plate the energy difference generates a light beam across the tube that hits the rear part of the glass, thus forming the image.

TV Set Definition

The definition that the TV set or monitor was designed to display. If the definition of the incoming signal is different (higher or lower) than the native definition of the TV set or monitor, it will be automatically adjusted for that definition ("Upconvert" or "Downconvert").
